NFL player strike: Jalen Rose is right - this would be a great idea
NFL players are thinking about striking and Jalen Rose spoke on the matter this week on ESPN. Dr Boyce Watkins, an advocate for black athletes, says that NFL players striking would be a wonderful thing, largely because a strike among the players would address numerous labor rights violations and racial inequality that has long existed in the NFL.
With regard to NFL athletes striking, Dr Watkins says that he agrees that players need guaranteed contracts, a new policy on weed, and the ability to go pro before they are three years out of high school. Dr Watkins also says that NFL players deserve a better healthcare policy to help them to deal with the epidemic of brain injuries that are harming black athletes and others in the sport.
Dr Watkins also speaks on the finances of black athletes and NFL and NBA players. He says that players going broke is a product of bad financial advice and bad economic mentorship. He says that the NFL should include financial planning as part of its collective bargaining agreement.
Dr Boyce Watkins is a Finance PhD and author of the books, "Black American Money," and "The New Black Power." He is also the founder of The Black Business School and TheBlackFinancialChannel.com. Dr Watkins has a PhD in Finance and taught Finance to college students at Syracuse University for 13 years, as well as other institutions around the world. In 2002, Dr Watkins was the only African American in the world to earn a PhD in Finance.
