In US news and current events today, anti-lockdown protests have been occurring in several states (North Carolina, California, and Michigan, to name a few) amid COVID-19, with demonstrators—many of whom are armed—protesting COVID19 stay-at-home and lockdown orders.

In Michigan, these Black armed guards are providing protection to state lawmakers concerned for their safety after protests by armed anti-lockdown protests, many of them Donald Trump supporters, amid the coronavirus pandemic. A group of volunteers escorted Michigan state Rep. Sarah Anthony into Michigan’s Capitol building on May 8 after she and other lawmakers said they felt unsafe by the lack of security provided to them after anti-lockdown protesters stormed the Capitol last week.
