A car protest took place in New York City's Manhattan borough with vehicles seen driving through the area on Monday in solidarity with the Armenian side in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Vehicles were seen carrying Armenian flags, honking, with a person later seen standing on a car in the middle of the road, holding the Armenian tricolour.

Fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh broke out on September 27 when Azerbaijani and ethnic Armenian soldiers exchanged fire. It's been the heaviest clashes in the region since 2016 with dozens of casualties reported. Both sides blame each other for the escalation and report of thousands of casualties.

The Nagorno-Karabakh region is internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan but has an independent government led by a majority group of ethnic Armenians.
