South African Panel Discuss Breaking From Colonial Past Sparked by Recent UK Royal Visit
The British Royal Tour has sparked mixed emotions from South Africans. While some have gushed over the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, others have slammed the hype surrounding the couple as proof of how colonised our minds still are. What will it take for us to break from our colonial past?
And how has our education system, which has British roots, affected the way we carry ourselves, view life and what we celebrate and don't.
Joining me in studio now to answer all these questions are Politics Ph.D. student at Wits, Shibu Motimele; joining us from our Pretoria studio is Master's Student at the University of Pretoria - and editor of Journal of Decolonising Disciplines, Siseko Kumalo. In our Durban studio is Dr. Chris Desmond, the Director for the Centre for Liberation Studies, while in our Cape Town studio is Lee-Anne Naidoo, UCT lecturer, and former student activist.
