System Addict was the 1985 seventh single from their debut album, Luxury of Life by Five Star. The single peaked at No.3 in the UK charts which was the group's first successful single. It also help fuel sales for the album.

Five Star was a family of Black British singers of Caribbean Descent of the nation of Barbados consisting of siblings, Denise, Stedman, Lorraine, Doris and Delroy Pearson and were put together by their father and manager, Buster Pearson whom happened to own his own record label which was the group's first label called Tent Records. Denise Pearson was the group's lead vocalist on the majority of their songs.
