Baby Step 1: Put $1,000 in an Emergency fund ($500 in income is under $20,000/year).
Baby Step 2: Pay off all debts using the snowball method.
Baby Step 3: Put 3-6 months expenses into a savings account.
Baby Step 4: Invest 15% of your income into a Roth IRAs/pretax retirement plans.
Baby Step 5: Begin college funding for your kids.
Baby Step 6: Pay off your home early (15 year fixed Mortgage is highly recommended).
Baby Step 7: Build Wealth & Give.

After completing Baby step 3: Dave focuses on insurance as follows:
1. Homeowner's/Renter's (raise the deductible and carry adequate liability)2. Auto (Same recommendations as listed above for home)
3. Health (Health Savings Account highly recommended)
4. Disability (occupational disability highly recommended)
5. Long term care (If 60 yrs old and up)
6. Identity Theft (Clean up services only highly recommended)
7. Life (Term Life highly recommended), complete Last will & testament, love ones should know how and where to access the money including passwords, bank account info, etc.
