3 friends from South Side of Chicago launch first Black-owned bread company
Mark Edmond wanted to support Black-owned businesses in the wake of George Floyd's killing, but he couldn't find a Black-owned producer for the very first item on his grocery list. So he and friends Charles Alexander & Jamel Lewis, all from the South Side of Chicago, decided to start the world's first Black-owned sliced bread company, simply named the Black Bread Company.
