The True Royal Family

St Louis, Missouri, was the epicenter of the Black Lives Matter movement in the summer of 2014, following the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson. Now, Kim Gardner – the city’s first African American chief prosecutor – is investigating police violence. She has filed a lawsuit against the police union and the city of St. Louis, accusing them of a “racially motivated conspiracy to deny the civil rights of racial minorities.” Both the police union and the city deny the accusations. Gardner speaks with Michel Martin about the importance of the case.

Originally aired on January 30, 2020.
